Women in Libertad

Women in Libertad

“Women in Libertad” is the story of girls and adolescents, between 14 and 17 years of age, who suffered in silence aggression and sexual abuse. In the Village of La Libertad, in San Onofre Sucre, for almost a decade, groups outside the law in Colombia carried out a series of sexual rapes where women were stigmatized and subjected the public shame. The humiliation was permanent and the abuse was systematic, lasting and overwhelming. In the image we see how one of these young women, after going through a long process to overcome pain and suffering, supports her daughter with the firm purpose of empowering her in the defense of her rights so that tragedies like these are not repeated again. “Ten women tell us the story of how violent actors outside the law took them to theirs places of refuge and mistreated them, forced them to wash the clothes of criminals. They had to not only do all the jobs they were asked to do, but they also punished them and were sexually abused.”
